HUD/DOT Grant for Affordable TOD in Dallas

In October 2010, the city of Dallas received a $2.225 million HUD grant, based on a study that The Real Estate Council funded on Transit Oriented Developments (TODs). The grant will support local efforts to achieve sustainable communities that link housing, transportation and services. The HUD funds will help with land acquisition and planning for four sites near Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail stations to connect workforce housing to DART and other services. The new HUD-DOT program builds on the Partnership for Sustainable Communities, an innovative new interagency collaboration between the DOT, HUD and the Environmental Protection Agency. The partnership is designed to remove the traditional barriers that exist between federal departments and strategically target the agencies’ transportation, land use, environmental, housing and community development resources to provide communities the resources they need to build more livable, sustainable communities.
