About 100 Napans concerned with the future of their neighborhoods attended Thursday night’s Planning Commission meeting to hear whether commissioners would give the go ahead to the Alexander Crossing Apartments.
After listening to attendees voice their distaste with the proposed complex at 190 Silverado Trail, the commission recommended approval of the project to the City Council, with the contingency that city staff further research traffic congestion, building height and environmental impact questions raised during the public hearing. Commissioner Carol Whichard dissented, citing concerns raised by residents.
Residents who occupy neighborhoods that would surround the proposed 134-unit complex said the new apartments would exacerbate area traffic problems, deteriorate the neighborhood and harm the local habitat.
