Feds: McKeesport PA failed to further fair housing

July 7 – Federal officials are telling McKeesport it has failed “to affirmatively further fair housing within its jurisdiction.”

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development seeks “a three-year legally binding agreement … that, if adequately performed, will satisfy the city’s duty.”

At stake is some $1.2 million in Community Development Block Grant funding that should have arrived March 1 but hasn’t been released, squeezing a city that has to tap its fund balance to pay salaries.

“The agreement is pretty one-sided, that we have to do a lot of the outreach and the benchmarks,” city community development director Bethany Budd-Bauer said after addressing city council Wednesday night
