Affording Housing Project Drawing Opposition in St. Paul

People living in St. Paul have pulled out all the stops trying to block an affordable housing project. The apartments at the corner of West Seventh and Springfield will be put to a city council vote Wednesday.

The housing project would be built along a narrow and busy stretch of West 7th Street. Many nearby residents say the 44-unit affordable housing development is too big on too small a plot of land.

Opponents say that a city ordinance requires a project like this to be built on at least two acres and the plot of land being proposed is 1.5 acres.
