Low-income senior housing proposal withers in front of KC Suburb City Council | ShawneeDispatch.com

The last time Johnson County Church of Christ applied for tax credits to build a low-income senior housing development, the state denied the application, citing a lack of funds.

On Monday, the Shawnee City Council stymied the church’s chances to try again for government funding.

The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program application requires a resolution from Shawnee stating the governing body is aware of plans and agrees there is a need for such housing in the area. However, the Council voted unanimously against the resolution.

Most Council members said they believed affordable senior housing was needed in Shawnee but not in the proposed spot.
