[NOTE – when have we come so parochial as to require that apartment renters be local? I’m sure the town does not require this of single family homeowners. And so lacking compassion that we require that they not be Section 8 residents?  Both of these requirements are open fields for a Fair Housing inquiry]

While the town initially supported the project, revelations that the developer might not be able to fulfill his promise to limit rentals to working families living in or near Saugerties changed that support to opposition. Bruno, who proposed a resolution in January 2011 offering the developer a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement moved to rescind the PILOT at a special meeting in August. The developer explained that he has admitted that he could not promise that all tenants in the proposed project would be local people, and that residents would not be recipients of the Section 8 rent subsidy program.
