Simcoe Article: Rethinking ‘us’ and ‘them’

We have a long way to go in terms of providing affordable housing in the Georgian Triangle.

Our first priority should be a change in attitude.

Time after time people line up at the microphone at municipal public meetings to oppose high and medium density housing. It seems anything that is not a single detached home does not fit a particular neighbourhood’s character.

People often campaign against townhouses and apartment buildings saying they would devalue the other homes in the neighbourhood.

A new report completed for the Georgian Triangle Housing Resource Centre shows almost half of Georgian Triangle residents are spending more than 30 per cent of their gross family household income on housing related costs.
